Krakow Airport: The Gateway to Southern Poland

Krakow John Paul II International Airport, commonly referred to as Krakow Airport, Cracow Airport, or Balice Airport, is the primary airport serving the city of Krakow and the surrounding regions. Renowned for its strategic importance in Poland and Central Europe, Krakow Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country.

Opening its doors in 1964, Krakow Airport was initially a military airport. It wasn’t until 1968 that it began to handle civilian traffic. Over the years, the airport has undergone significant expansions and modernizations to accommodate the increasing number of passengers and airlines. In 1995, the airport was named John Paul II Krakow-Balice International Airport, after Pope John Paul II, a native of the region and a globally revered figure, to honor his legacy and impact.

Situated approximately 11 kilometers (7 miles) west of the Krakow city center, Krakow Airport is located in the village of Balice, making it often referred to as Krakow-Balice Airport or simply Balice Airport. The airport is conveniently connected to the city via a network of trains, buses, and taxis, ensuring easy accessibility for travelers.

Handling over 8 million passengers annually, Krakow Airport offers flights to a wide array of domestic and international destinations.
