John Paul II Kraków-Balice Airport is one of the most important airports in Poland
and a true gateway to Małopolska. Every year, millions of passengers use it,
both tourists and residents of the region returning from their travels. When landing
here, many people wonder: what is the fastest and most convenient way to get to
the centre of Krakow? There are several options, each with its own advantages.
1. Train – the fastest and most convenient option
The most popular means of transport is definitely the train.
The Koleje Małopolskie train runs every few minutes and connects the passenger terminal
with the Main Railway Station. The journey takes about 20 minutes and avoids
Krakow’s traffic jams, which can be a huge advantage. An additional plus is that
the carriages are adapted for luggage transport and have Wi-Fi.
2. Bus, the cheapest solution
If you want to get to the city at a low cost, choose public transport.
There are day and night buses from the airport (lines 208, 209,
300 and night bus 902). The journey takes about 40-50 minutes, but the ticket price
is very attractive. This is a good option, especially for people
travelling solo or students.
3. Taxis, i.e. comfort to your destination
For those who value convenience, taxis and
popular ride-hailing apps are available at the airport. This is the fastest solution when
travelling with large luggage, with children or arriving late at night.
However, it is important to remember that this is the most expensive form of transport.
4. Car – flexibility for active people
There are many car rental companies operating in Balice. This is a great solution
if you plan to visit the surroundings of Krakow, e.g. Wieliczka, Ojców National Park
National Park or Zakopane. You can reach the centre of Krakow in 25-30
minutes, but you have to take into account the problem of parking in the city centre.
Regardless of which option you choose, getting from Balice to the centre of
Krakow is easy and convenient. After a short journey, you can find yourself
in the Main Market Square, try an obwarzanek or start
exploring Wawel. The airport and the city are well connected,
so there is something for everyone.
