Travelling by plane can be tiring. That is why many passengers, immediately after arriving in
Krakow, look for a moment of respite surrounded by nature. The capital of Małopolska is not only
historic monuments and the bustling streets of the Old Town, but also plenty of green
spaces. Here are some suggestions for parks and walking areas where you can
relax, get some fresh air and recharge your batteries.
1. Wolski Forest – the green lungs of Krakow
Just a few minutes from Balice Airport is Wolski Forest – a huge
forest complex with numerous walking and cycling routes. It is the perfect
place if you dream of peace and quiet and contact with nature after your journey. The forest is also home to
Piłsudski’s Mound – a viewpoint offering a panoramic view of the entire
city.
2. Błonia Park – a green meadow in the heart of the city
Right next to the city centre, you will find a vast meadow covering an area of over 40 hectares. It is
the perfect place for a short walk, a picnic or to stretch your legs after a long flight. From
Błonia, there is a beautiful view of Wawel Castle and the nearby monasteries.
3. Jordan Park – a classic Krakow walk
Located right next to Błonia, it is one of the oldest parks in Krakow. It combines
recreational and historical functions – in the alleys you will find monuments to national heroes,
and in the recreational area there are playgrounds, sports fields and places to rest.
A great choice for families with children.
4. Marek Grechuta Krakow Park
Located near AGH University of Science and Technology and Bagatela Theatre, it is a green oasis in the city centre. In
the shade of old trees, you can sit on a bench and enjoy a coffee bought on
the way from the airport.
5. Jagiellonian University Botanical Garden
For lovers of exotic and unique plants. It is the oldest botanical garden in
Poland (founded in 1783), where you will find a palm house, a greenhouse with cacti and
many unique species of trees. An ideal walk in the spirit of slow travel.
6. Vistula Boulevards – a walk with a view of Wawel Castle
If you want to combine relaxation with exploring the city, the Vistula Boulevards are
the perfect choice. A walk along the Vistula allows you to see Wawel Castle, footbridges and bridges, as well as
numerous pubs on barges.
7. Krakus Mound and Bednarski Park (Podgórze)
On the other side of the Vistula, you will find slightly less touristy places – the green Bednarski Park
and Krakus Mound, which offers a view of the Old Town and
Kazimierz. It’s a great alternative if you want to escape the crowds.
Krakow is a city that can delight not only with its architecture and history, but also with
its green spaces. Both after a long flight and before departure, it is worth
taking a moment to stroll through the Wola Forest, Błonia Park or along the Vistula River.
This makes the trip more complete and shows Krakow from its
most natural side.
